VIOLET DUO
The Violet Duo was founded in 2015 by saxophonists Brian Bosley and Cecily Terhune as a format for commissioning new works and interpreting established works for two saxophones. The duet is based out of Muncie, Indiana where both attended school at Ball State University. Bosley and Terhune have played together for many years prior to the formation of the duet. Together they played side by side in the top ensembles at Ball State: the BSU Jazz Lab Ensemble, the BSU Wind Ensemble, and the Midas Quartet along with playing in the Evansville Symphonic Concert and Jazz Bands and America’s Hometown Concert and Jazz Bands.
As proponents of New Music, the Duo’s most recent commission was a world premiere of Three Miniatures for soprano sax duo by Carter Rice at the North American Saxophone Alliance’s 2016 conference at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas. The Violet Duo also performs a mix of arrangements and transcriptions specifically tailored to their instrumentation. The most recent performances have taken place in the California Bay Area.
